Why Career Connect?

This platform was created to make it easy and impactful for university students and young professionals interested in investment management and advice careers to connect with professionals like youLater this year, we’ll also open the platform to investors and advisers looking to grow their careers by connecting with peers and leaders within the industry - making Career Connect a platform for every career stage.

It’s designed around a one-off, 45-minute conversation based on what the mentee wants to discuss, such as:

  • Exploring the day-to-day of investment management and advice: What roles exist, what skills are needed, and why it’s a great career path.
  • Diving deeper into a specific area: Asset classes, sectors, or roles the mentee has researched and wants to understand more deeply.
  • Getting feedback on an investment idea: The mentee may share a stock pitch, case competition idea, or investment thesis for your feedback.

What’s expected of you

We know your time is valuable. This platform is meant to feel rewarding, not draining and gives you the flexibility to engage in a way that works for you.

  • You can connect with one mentee or up to five at a time
  • The platform handles the matching process, and you're free to decline any connection for any reason - time, fit, or otherwise. No explanation needed
  • Mentees are provided with ample resources to lead a meaningful conversation and the onus is on them to come prepared with questions and topics
  • While the default expectation is a single 45-minute chat, if the conversation flows, you're welcome to continue the relationship on your own terms

Benefits for you and your organisation

  • Unlike structured mentoring programs, this is a low-commitment, high-impact way to share your experience and help guide aspiring and existing investors
  • It’s a chance to meet curious, motivated talent - some of whom may be a great fit for your team in future
  • It raises your profile as an investor or adviser who’s committed to giving back and growing the pipeline of future talent in the industry
  • You can choose to connect with women and/or people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, allowing you to invest your time in supporting the most underrepresented groups in the industry

Quick tips before you get started

  • For the best viewing experience, zoom in to 125%
  • Click the arrow in the left-hand menu to reveal all profile questions
  • Your EA/PA can set up and manage your profile and diary. Simply email us your EA/PA details and we'll set up the appropriate access and provide instructions.

Setting up your profile

Creating a profile only takes 5–10 minutes. You’ll be asked to provide:

  • Basic details: Name, job title, years of experience, and your LinkedIn URL
  • LinkedIn bio: Your URL will auto-generate a short bio, which you can amend as needed
  • Mentee capacity: The system default is one mentee at a time, but you can opt in for up to five
  • Expertise areas: Tick the technical and non-technical topics or asset classes you're comfortable discussing - this helps ensure relevant matches
  • Personal insights: A couple of short answers on what you love most about your role and what you're curious about right now in the market

How matching works

  • Mentees are provided with a curated list of mentors that match their goals and interests
  • Mentees rank their preferences, and mentors are sent a connection request based on those rankings
  • Mentors can view the mentee profile, including topics they are keen to discuss

As a mentor, you can then choose to:

  • Accept: The mentee will be notified that you have accepted and will contact you directly to introduce themselves and set up a meeting that suits you both (in-person or virtual).
  • Decline: The platform will send a generic message to the mentee and move to the next match - no need to justify your decision.

What to expect from the conversation

The onus is on the mentee to come prepared and they’re given resources to help, including a recommended agenda, conversation prompts, and guidance on how to make the most of your time together.

As a mentor, you may like to prepare by reflecting on:

  • What you wish you'd known earlier in your career
  • Insights into your current role or investment thinking
  • Guidance on common early-career decisions and great advice you received

If the conversation flows and you're both keen to continue, feel free to set up another meeting, or even explore an ongoing mentoring relationship. You can do this in or outside the platform.

Want to go deeper?

If you’re interested in a more structured mentoring experience, we can provide a guided program with monthly topics, exercises and check-ins to support deeper engagement. Reach out for more information.

After your conversation, the platform will prompt you with a quick feedback form. We’d love your honest thoughts as it helps us improve the experience for everyone.
